Recently, German TÜV Rheinland, an independent international third-party testing, inspection and certification body, and Chongqing ZXMOTO Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as ZXMOTO) held an EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA) certification awarding ceremony in Chongqing.
With technical support from TÜV Rheinland, ZXMOTO’s 500RR motorcycle (Model No. ZX500RR-A3) obtained the EU WVTA certificate issued by the National Society of Automobile Circulation (SNCH) under Luxembourg’s Ministry of Transport. This marks ZXMOTO’s first EU WVTA certification, verifying that the model complies with EU market access standards and can be legally sold in all EU member states, as well as other countries and regions that recognize WVTA certification.
Zhang Xue, Founder and General Manager of ZXMOTO, Yu Haibing, Director of the R&D Department, Huang Qin, Director of the Foreign Trade Department, alongside Thomas Quernheim, Global Senior Vice President of Transportation Services Engineering & Type Approval at TÜV Rheinland, Huang Yuxin, Senior Vice President of Greater China Transportation Services, Li Weiying, Vice President of Sales, and Ma Xiangfang, South China Regional General Manager, attended the ceremony. During the event, the TÜV Rheinland team toured ZXMOTO’s manufacturing plant to observe its production, performance testing and other operational processes up close.
At the exchange meeting, Zhang Xue, Thomas Quernheim and Huang Yuxin opened discussions with a shared passion for motorcycles, conducting in-depth exchanges on topics including improving product safety and quality and advancing the brand’s global development.
## Laying Critical Compliance Foundations for European Market Expansion
Throughout the certification project, teams from both parties collaborated closely to efficiently complete all compliance procedures. In accordance with EU Regulation (EU) 168/2013, TÜV Rheinland carried out systematic testing and evaluation of the complete ZX500RR-A3 vehicle, covering core dimensions including structural safety, functional safety and environmental performance.
As the brand’s first model qualified for EU market entry, the WVTA certification confirms that all vehicle parameters meet EU access requirements. It not only establishes a solid compliance foundation for ZXMOTO’s expansion into Europe, but also embodies the industry’s expectations for high-performance domestic motorcycle brands to break through in global markets.
Zhang Xue stated that Europe boasts a mature motorcycle culture and industrial ecosystem, where consumers hold high standards for vehicle performance, build quality and riding experience. ZXMOTO aims to deliver products that integrate outstanding performance, distinctive design and thrilling riding fun to European consumers, offering them more diversified options.
“Entering the European market means we must meet stringent regulatory access standards and compete head-to-head with established legacy manufacturers boasting long-term technical expertise and brand influence. Moving forward, ZXMOTO will further enrich its product lineup, steadily build overseas sales networks and after-sales service systems, and scale up global brand communication, enabling Chinese motorcycles to reach broader international markets.”
Thomas Quernheim commented that a growing number of Chinese motorcycle brands are expanding into Europe in recent years, a testament to the steady advancement of Chinese enterprises’ R&D, manufacturing and product innovation capabilities. Beyond specifications and pricing, European consumers place heavy emphasis on product compliance, safety, consistent delivery quality, efficiency and comprehensive after-sales support. Chinese motorcycle brands are injecting new vitality into the European market through rapid product iteration, diverse design concepts and continuously upgraded technologies.
## Empowering Globalization of Domestic Motorcycles with World-Class Certification Expertise
Huang Yuxin noted that the WVTA whole vehicle type approval serves as the mandatory entry threshold for the EU market, primarily verifying that vehicles satisfy EU regulatory requirements for safety, environmental protection and consistent production conformity.
Chinese motorcycle brands exploring overseas markets can leverage comprehensive technical support from third-party certification bodies to consolidate product compliance through rigorous testing and assessment, quickly build market credibility, and secure robust backing for subsequent channel development and long-term brand growth.
